Building Bridges
Ernst & Young
WHAT IS BUILDING BRIDGES?

BB is a program implemented by Ernst & Young with the objective of transitioning young employees into their professional careers through cultural emersion. By giving them the opportunity to learn about various cultures from around the world, the company hopes to motivate its workers to both give back to the community and lead meaningful initiatives with their new knowledge of art and culture.

TARGET DEMOGRAPHIC

Our program targets 50-100 millennial employees in the Seattle offices because, with our long term goal in mind, by starting minimally, we will be able to gauge the program’s value and expand the program in the future.

OUR OBJECTIVES

We hope that through the Building Bridges Program, we will be able to familiarize workers with different cultures to create a more well-rounded workforce, bridge the gap between Millennial workers and past generation workers by exposure and understanding of differing viewpoints, and ultimately promote globalization and international business practices

ACTIVITIES FOR THE COMING YEAR

At the beginning of the year, Building Bridges will hold a large cultural gala to start off the program, which will incorporate both the workers themselves as well as the general public.

We plan to bring about a workshop in which workers will be split into groups of 10 and assigned to a designated culture, and over the course of the 12 months, workers will learn every aspect of their culture, and will in turn explain their research to the other other workers.

At the end of the 12 months, we plan to hold a culminating 3-day convention, in which both the workers and the community are able to benefit from keynote speakers, cultural performances, and foods from around the world. The convention will allow both the workers and the community to fully immerse themselves into a variety of different cultures.

COMMUNITY BENEFITS

The community will benefit from the Building Bridges Program through their expanded knowledge of the different ethnic cultures as well as the different cultures between the old generation and the millennials. This program will allow the community to fully appreciate international cultures through emersion.

COMPANY BENEFITS

Due to being more cultured, the company’s employees will develop better bonds with their co-workers, thus creating a better organizational culture and working environment. Their workers will also become more well-rounded and, therefore, will be more motivated to come to work.

With assimilated cultures, the company will be able to adapt to international business.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS

Workers benefit from the program through their expanded knowledge in cultural sensitivity. By being immersed in different cultures, they are better geared for international practices, which are relevant to day to day life. As a result, the workers will be able to live a more fruitful life with their new appreciation and understanding of different cultures.

OUR DEFINITION OF SUCCESS

Success of the program will be measured through personal testimonial by constituents from the program. Theses testimonials will be advocated through stories that are published on the website, which act as a way to reach out to the community and share what workers have taken away from their experience.
